St Bede's Sports College
Gym Refurbishment
The project consisted of the refurbishment of the school gym and included a new acoustic suspended ceiling, decoration, new lighting/ventilation installation, renewal of heaters within the gym and sanding and varnishing of the existing timber flooring
The gym formed part of a busy sports college, which is used the majority of the time during college hours as well as at weekends, where they host international table tennis tournaments. The work was to be carried during term time therefore a strict programme of works had to be adhered to. We were required to minimise the time the college was without their gym and to ensure it was completed for an up and coming tournament.
Whilst working in a live environment we has to be sympathetic to the college environment ensuring noise and dust contamination was kept to a minimum and ensuring the safety of pupils, staff, visitors and our own operatives was paramount. Any works that were deemed too noisy or posed a threat to pupils and staff safety were completed out of hours mainly at weekends.
We liaised closely with Sports England and the Head of the Colleges Sports Department to ensure the colour scheme, lighting and ventilation was within the guidelines but also suitable for the end users’ needs
The project was completed on time and under budget and the school opted for some additional decoration to the changing rooms
