Stay City

Essential repairs to brickwork

Stay City is a serviced apartment business in the centre of Manchester. Structural cracking was noted around the building along with spalled and damaged brickwork. Therefore erection of a scaffold to the elevations of the tower block including roof elevations was required in order to carry out the essential repairs to brickwork including investigation of structural cracking, selective re-pointing and cleaning.

Whilst the remedial work were straight forward to complete the real issues was the protection of the guests, staff and members of the public including prevention of accessing the scaffold. After researching a suitable scaffold, we opted for the Layher protect scaffold as it was the best on the market for its anti-climb properties whilst also being ecstatically pleasing. This was just as important due to the location of the building and the service it provided it had to pleasing to the eye in order for them to continue trading throughout the project. The scaffolding also won an award from Layher for the month of August.  Additionally to the Layher protect system all the scaffolding was fenced off around the perimeter including signage, scaffold alarm with debris netting fixed around all elevations including the balconies of the rooms and security guards employed at weekends.

Stay City was working to 95% occupancy throughout the entire project with no serious incidents noted. This was down to good management of sub-contractors, health and safety and the flexible working nature of Tomax

Back to Case Studies

I just wanted to say a big 'thank you' for both your pro & re-activity during these works.

Anytime we had an issue (which was not often), you were swift to react and resolve. This was important for our business and was much appreciated.
